THE NEED Many women leaving substance
abuse rehab, prison, domestic violence and other shelters need additional education and skill development before they can
afford safe, sober, healthy living environments for themselves and their children. These women need extended families
and relationships that are respectful, trustworthy, cooperative, caring, and supportive of recovery from past abuses.
OASIS is developing a program where women in transitional housing work on entrepreneurial and business skills together in
their own cottage industry. The women will participate in a cooperative child care program on site. Transportation
to and from the cottage industry will be coordinated within the workforce. Women will learn to celebrate the
value of mutual interdependence without engaging in self-destructive behavior.
